Competency based assessment

In the vocational education sector we use competency based training and assessment.
You will be deemed competent or not yet competent (in this case you may re submit). This unit is not graded.

You work to an agreed national industry standard. This unit of competence is called ‘Research, describe and document cultural material’.

Assessment under the national vocational education and training system is quite different from the formal examinations and tests most people remember from their school days. Evidence is gathered to demonstrate  competence in the skills and knowledge required by the units of competence. This may include samples of work, observation, journals and answers to questions.

Your trainer will collect the evidence and make a judgement on whether competency has been achieved to confirm you can perform to the standard expected in the workplace. The standard is described in the Unit of competence.

How do I do this study? A good idea is to work in pairs or a small group. However your final assignment will be an individual effort.

How do I motivate myself? If you are working in a small regional or remote museum the chances are that you appreciate history. Well this is applied history.
